First setup

Do this once after install. You need about ten minutes and the people who will use the app.

1. Sign in and change the admin password

The first account is admin / admin. Click the username in the header to open the User Control Panel, then Change password. Use at least eight characters.

Keep this account for household administration. You can add more parent logins later.

2. Create the family

On Home, enter a family name (for example “The Smith Family”) and create it. The first parent to do this becomes the household owner. One StarLoom install is one family.

3. Add people

Open Control Panel → People (or Add person on Home).

For each person:

  1. Enter their display name (what the family sees).
  2. Turn login on only if they will sign in themselves — typically each child who should see their own stars.
  3. If login is on, set a username and a password of at least eight characters. Share those credentials with them in person.

A star colour is assigned automatically. You can upload an avatar later from their person page.

People without a login still appear on the family home and star chart. A parent awards stars and redeems rewards on their behalf.

4. Add rewards

Open Rewards in the header. Create a few privileges your family actually uses, for example:

Reward Cost
Extra screen time 1 star
Choose dinner 5 stars
Stay up 30 minutes late 5 stars

Each reward can require parent approval before stars are spent. That is the default for new rewards unless you change it in Settings.

5. Add a star chart and chores

Open Star Charts to create a weekly chart, then Control Panel → Chores to add chores:

  • Title (for example “Do your homework”)
  • Stars earned when completed
  • Weekdays the chore is due
  • Which people it applies to
  • Which star chart it belongs to

The chart is a Monday–Sunday grid. Completing a scheduled cell awards those stars.

6. Hand a child their login

Give the child the username and password you created. They open the same URL as you, sign in, and land on their home — own balance, recent awards, and rewards they can redeem. They do not see siblings’ balances or the Control Panel.
